The candlelit eyes
sprinkled to me
in a shimmering sea.
A golden leaf flowing
to me from you.
The twisting roots giggling
into the essence of a greater life.
Your hand outreached.
long and stretching.
Coming to tickle me.
To stream across me
as the wind does to the sparkling sand.
I searched for your assurance
as a shy, romantic pleaser.
All the leaf wants is a tree branch.
All the reef wants is a wave of salty water.
All I want is your sprinkled brown eyes on me.

I subtracted myself from you,
into somewhere meant for only some
The overlapping ledges
shifted and drifted
among the shivering fish.
Deep in the ledges
through a tunnel
through a whirlpool
I come upon some half lit arena.
Creatures congested and stiff
reluctant and unsure
circle and swirl.
Looking into their eyes I could see them.
The minuscule jokesters inside each
debating whether to sink or swim.
Some dripped underneath
some chose otherwise
separate and together
they made their choices.
Underneath they dwindled
to few parties of few.
Shadows on their faces
Light a shrinking siren.
Above, the “high road”
better or smarter, maybe.
The light mirrored from their faces
skipping off to find adequate hosts.
The line of water between them grew faster.
The separate groups began
a match of priority over others.
Their differences,
the more important.
The water grumbled at its changing surface.
The ledges broke some rising and some tumbling
Soon the hole grew
a sideways chasm.
A black hole emerged
terrifying and real
in front of all faces.
The confusion sprang
them together
as they blamed.
The differences
had shattered their awareness.
The world they’d made
had gone unwatched
and now they find
an unforgivable sucking demon,
more gruesome than all of us.
